The Lady Pirates fell to Heritage Academy 42-27 in the opening day of the Columbus Christian Christmas Tournament. Pickens Academy stayed close with the Lady Patriots, trailing just 20-19 at halftime before ultimately falling to Heritage Academy. PA once again had trouble with the zone press, which the Lady Patriots applied for most of the game.
“We did a good job once we got the press broke, but we didn’t do a good job of breaking the press,” Pickens Academy head coach Wade Goodman said. “We tried to dribble through the zone press and you can’t do that.”
Carleigh Cameron scored eight of PA’s nine first quarter points, as the Lady Pirates trailed 11-9 after one quarter of play. Cameron scored another five points, including a three-pointer in the second quarter, as the junior finished the first half with 11 points with Pickens Academy trailing only 20-19 at the half.
