Regarding an upcoming project by the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) for Highway 82, the Gordo City Council heard an annexation ordinance by Mayor Craig Patterson to take the planned new route of the highway and annex it into the city. The council was asked to look over the ordinance and be ready to vote on it at the next city council meeting February 4.
The ordinance was read aloud by Patterson as follows:
Whereas the town of Gordo is losing our economic corridor through our main business district on U.S. Highway 82 which is State Route 6 and
Whereas the town of Gordo understands the reasoning behind the move of U.S. 82 to the north of the existing highway and north of our business district and
Whereas the town of Gordo believes that to offset any loss of business revenue due to this move the town will annex the right-of-way of the new highway beginning at mile marker 23.8 and ending at mile marker 29.6 and
Therefore, be it ordained by the town council of the town of Gordo as follows:
The town of Gordo hereby annexes the right-of-way owned by the state of Alabama beginning at mile marker 23.8 and ending at mile marker 29.6 on the future route of U.S. Highway 82/State Route 6.
