Bailey Gibson Dixie Youth Field’s press box at Aliceville City Park may contain the switch for the scoreboard on the far side of the field, but entry is blocked off and the door padlocked. A scoreboard is a necessity if the city is to host any All-Star games.

Alabama Dixie Youth Baseball games will kick off mid-April, and Pickens County is gearing up for another great season. But to provide comfortable surroundings and facilities for spectators, parents, coaches, and kids, some parks will need a bit of rejuvenating to achieve success. Aliceville will be hosting not only their own city’s league at the park, but Reform’s city league will be playing at the Aliceville park as well.
At the Mar. 14 Aliceville City Council meeting, Matthew Lavender spoke on behalf of the Aliceville Dixie Youth about necessary renovations needed before the season begins, even though practices have already commenced. Lavender stated the League had volunteers willing to help but needed the city to take steps to get the repairs and general upkeep started and continued. “We are planning a work day when we get weather permitting,” said Lavender. “Painting dugouts and whatever else needs to be done.”
Bigger issues were brought to the attention of the council though. “Just for the Dixie Youth, we are talking about two fields,” said Lavender. “The little field has two light poles out. There are 14 total (lights) out on the big field.” Estimates from Wes Lindley, an electrician in Aliceville, were passed out to the council members. Lindley was invited by Lavender to do an inspection and prepare an estimate to present to the council. This estimate included changing breakers, ballasts, and lights.
