As many of you know, since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the court system in the 24th Judicial Circuit (Fayette, Lamar and Pickens Counties) has continued to be open and operational, but with significant adjustments required to comply with the emergency orders entered by the Governor.
One of those adjustments was the temporary suspension of criminal and civil jury trials.
However, on September 14, 2020, new procedures, designed to keep jurors, other court participants and the public safe from COVID-19, were put into place to allow jury trials to resume in this Circuit.
Since that date, we have successfully completed several jury trials without any known exposure or spread of the virus. In the coming months, many of you will receive a summons to appear as a potential juror.
