The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has been busy making changes to the former “square” around the old Pickens County courthouse in Carrollton. In an attempt to keep large semi-trucks from jumping curbs and knocking down light poles, the corners of the square were cut off and light poles moved back about five or six feet, effectively turning the square into an octagon.
Now, the traffic pattern has been changed, and this change has many confused. Some of us remember the one-way path around the courthouse. I took my driving test around the courthouse when I was 16 years old. It was one-way then. It is one-way now again, but with some changes.
