Natalie Lavender, Health Science teacher at the Pickens County College and Career Center (PCCCC) in Carrollton, has been awarded Teacher of the Year in the Health Science division by a national organization for career technical educators known as the Association for Career and Technical Education.

Lavender has been a member of the organization for 24 years, the length of time she has been in the teaching profession. Nominated by an unknown member, Lavender was required to complete an application for the award containing, among other information, the program PCCCC has in place, teaching style, years of experience, and outstanding accomplishments. “It ended up being about 15 pages of information along with letters of recommendation,” said Lavender. Pickens County Superintendent of Education Jamie Chapman, PCCCC Principal Chan Mullenix, and Pickens County Extension Office supervisor Patti Fuller, all wrote letters on Lavender’s behalf.
