The Lady Waves kicked off their area tournament with a 19-1 win over Holt, followed by a 4-2 win over Hale County, a team that had beaten Gordo twice in the regular season. The two wins on Tuesday set the Lady Waves up to face the Wildcats again on Thursday, only needing one win to claim the area championship. Not only did Gordo not pick up a win in either game, but they were blown out by Hale County by scores of 21-3 and 15-0.

This came on the heels of finishing in third-place in the Carbon Hill tournament, where they Lady Wave opened with a 9-1 win over Carbon Hill before falling to Sumiton Christian and Carbon Hill in consecutive games. Gordo would win the consolation game over Sipsey Valley 9-3.

Gordo, 19 Holt, 1

Gordo jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first inning, as Halli Koon, Kaylee Quimby, Lilly Sutton, Ansley Wells, and Anna Kate Dykes scored RBIs in the inning.

The Green Wave were not done, however, as they tacked on 12 more runs in the second inning. Wells lead things off with a double to make the score 9-0 with no outs in the bottom of the second. Wells then scored on a passed ball to make the score 10-0. Taylor Clegg hit a triple to make the score 12-0 and then Quimby doubled to left field to increase the lead to 14-0. Chloe Harville singled to make the score 15-0 and with the bases loaded, Anna Kate Dykes singled to score Lynnsey Horton, followed by a score on a wild pitch. Kate Allen then singled to make the score 19-0 after two innings.

Gordo would not have to bat again, as Holt only managed to score one run in the top of the third inning, run-ruling the game after three innings at 19-1.
