Gordo Chamber President Announces Citizen of the Year

GORDO- The annual banquet of the Gordo area Chamber of Commerce took place on July 23, 2022, at the Foxwood venue. Chamber Board President Kaleb Beams welcomed a large crowd to the event.

The guest speaker Martin Houston was introduced by president Beams. Houston attended Cherokee High School, and after graduating, he attended the University of Alabama. He was a member of the 1992 National Championship and part of two SCC championship teams while at Alabama. Houston was a star on the field, off the field, and in his community. As a 1992 all-academic SCC member, Houston has achieved multiple awards, including the 1992 Christian of the Year Award, the Charlie Compton Leadership Award, and the Sylvester Croom- Commitment of Excellence Award. After his career at the University of Alabama, Houston had a stint with the Pittsburg steelers in the National Football League. Houston is married to Sandra Dobbins Houston, and they have four children. He is the lead pastor at harvest church in Coker, Alabama, and hosts the Martin Houston Show on Tide 100.9.
