Josie Duncan Turnipseed, age 77, of Ethelsville, AL passed away October 30, 2022 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, MS. Funeral services were 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kevin Taylor officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Moriah Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Turnipseed; her parents; brothers, Charles “Bill” Duncan, Odis Duncan and infant brother, Bobby Gene Duncan and sisters, Delores Shaw, Virginia Shaw and an infant sister.
Survivors include her daughters, Lisa Pate, Susan Cowart and Lori Baines (Jason); grandchildren, Amanda Pate, Ashleigh Clay (Kasey), Austin Pate, Lucas Baines, Lance Baines and Libby Baines; great-grandchildren, Dalton Crowe and John Ellis Clay; sisters, Elizabeth Hudson and Faye Oglesby; sister-in-law, Eunice Duncan and brother-in-law, Searcy Mullenix.
Josie was born December 7, 1944 in Reform, Alabama to the late Roy Belcher Duncan and Eula Peeks Duncan. She was a retired seamstress having worked in Millport and Carrollton in the garment industry for many years. She attended Mt. Moriah Freewill Baptist Church in McShan. She enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandkids, especially on Sunday evenings.
Pallbearers were Austin Pate, Lucas Baines, Lance Baines, Kasey Clay, Gary Sullivan, Joe Sanders and Jeff Oglesby.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the McShan Community Center, 36 Price Road, Gordo, AL 35466.
