Deputy James Reed was chosen as the Employee of the Month for the Sheriff’s Department for January. He has been with the Sheriff’s Department for one year. He is from Tuscaloosa, and he attended the Academy at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office three years ago.
“James was selected because he is a true public servant at heart,” said Sheriff Todd Hall. “He brings so much to the table. He is part time with us, but since he has been here he has taken over our sex offenders and has done an excellent job of managing that and making sure that segment is serviced, and they stay on top of it.  We are very fortunate to have him. He has a lot of administrative skills, and that has helped us tremendously.”
Before coming to the Sheriff’s Department, Reed worked part time with the Gordo Police Department and worked full time for the City of Northport’s  Fire Department. He is still working full time with Northport’s Fire Department and also works for another fire department in the City of Brookwood.
When asked what his day is like at the Sheriff’s Department, Reed explained, “I register sex offenders quarterly and keep up with the active warrants and anything that has been recalled and any of them that have been served. I make sure all the paperwork is in order when they go to court.”
Just like all the other employees at the Sheriff’s Department, Reed feels like the people at his job are family.
