James O. Elmore

James O. Elmore, age 92, of Gordo, AL passed away March 28, 2023 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.  Graveside services were 1:00 pm Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Gordo with Rev. David Tunnell officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.  Visitation was 6 - 8 pm Friday, March 31, 2023 at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Melvan Brown Elmore; his parents; four brothers, Cleo “Tip” Elmore (Ruth), Robert Lewis Elmore (Mildred), Harold Gene “Buck” Elmore (Frances) and Leo “Dude” Elmore (Barbara); sister, Gladys Tunnell (Ralph) and brother-in-law, Charlie B. Barton.
Survivors include his daughter, Melissa Elmore Dove (Stan); two sons, James Dewey Elmore (Wendy) and Danny O’Neal Elmore; sister, Ola Barton; two brothers, Boyd “Jim” Elmore (Betty) and Elbert “Zeb” Elmore (Charlotte);  brother-in-law, Charles Smith; four grandchildren, Cherry Dove O’Neal, Alex Dove (Frances), Nick Tilley and Mary Tilley; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and we can’t forget, his fur baby, “Charlie”; his cross-eyed possum, “Willie” and his chickens.
Mr. Elmore was born January 31, 1931 in Gordo, Alabama to the late Oscar Dewey Elmore and Era Elo Duren Elmore.  He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, a  retired employee of Peco Farms with over 30 years of service and a veteran of the United States Navy.
Honorary Pallbearers were DCH 7th Floor North, Dr. John Miller, Hospice of West Alabama, Sam and Gypsy Strickland and his niece, Bobbie Jean Sanderson.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
