An old-time popular restaurant has opened its doors again in Pickensville, Alabama. Janice Brown has opened Down Yonder with the slogan “Let’s All Eat.” She has always been in food service. She learned to cook at home, and then she was a cook in the army for ten years and worked in the food service industry at a school district in Indianapolis, Indiana. She continued her work as a cook at the Department of Corrections in Indianapolis.

She moved to West Point, Mississippi, to work at Yokohama Tire. She decided to move to Pickensville after she renovated a house for one of her daughters there. Her daughter decided not to move to Pickens County, so she moved into the house that she renovated. Brown wondered why there was no place to eat in Pickensville.

Mayor Don Sherrod showed her the building, and she decided to work, clean it up, and open Down Yonder. Brown opened the doors on May 19, 2023. The restaurant is open Tuesday through Friday for breakfast, lunch, and supper. The hours on those days for breakfast are from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Lunch is from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and supper is from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, they are open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday; they are open from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. They have a plate lunch on Sundays as well as their regular menu.
