James Holly Dyer

James Holly Dyer, age 85, of Gordo, AL passed away October 23, 2023 at his home.  Funeral services were 11:00 am Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Highland Baptist Church in Gordo with Rev. Travis Free, Rev. Glenn Kennedy and Rev. Shawn McDaniel officiating.  Burial was held in Zion Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.  Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Shirla Elmore Dyer; his son, James Rodney Dyer; his parents and brothers, Wayne Dyer, Bruce Dyer and Jerome “Fat Cat” Dyer.
Survivors include his daughter, Cyndee Brooks (Robert); son, Keith Dyer (Katy) and four grandchildren, J. B. Dyer, Zeb Dyer (Lexi Larkin), Call Dyer and Holly Beth Brooks.
Holly was born January 5, 1938 in Gordo, Alabama to the late Zelbert Dyer and Effie Mae Rogers Dyer.  He was loved deeply by both his family and community.  Holly was a faithful and loving member of Highland Baptist Church where he served as a deacon since 1970.  He worked at Peco Foods, Inc for 50 years as Director of Processing.  Holly was a loving father, grandfather and friend to many.
Pallbearers were J. B. Dyer, Zeb Dyer, Call Dyer, Alan Dyer, Mitch Dyer, Willie Dyer, Walt Dyer, Brad Paulk, Dyer Jones and Drake Jones.
Honorary Pallbearers were the Jerome Hickman family, the Denny Hickman family. Glendon Junkin, Johnny and Darlene Dyer, Perry Herring, Dan Irvin, Rodney Woolbright. Clifford Junkin, Chris McCool, Dr. Mary Clapp, Leatha Dockery, Patricia Howard, Jo Jo Seymer, Shelly Wilson, Mildred Skelton, Wayne Cooper, Dick and Betty Radugge, members of Highland Baptist Church, neighbors in the Zion and Gordo communities, friends of Peco Foods and the nurses and staff of Amedisys Hospice.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Zion Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Roger Parker, P.O. Box 90, Gordo, AL  35466.
