Kerry Windle

Kerry Windle, age 65, of Carrollton, AL died January 15, 2025 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, MS. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lesia Windle, his father, Bobby Cole Windle, and grandparents, Cole and Minnie Pate Windle, Lafayette and Frances Jay Gates, Surviving he leaves his daughters Tyronzia Duncan (Marvin), Ashley Dorsey (Isaac), grand- child Brooke Johnson, mother, Bonnie Gates Win- dle, sister Julie Windle Bryant (Rod Scroggins), niece, Christi Bryant, nephew Randall Bryant, great-nephew Kylan Bryant, many cousins and other close relatives. Kerry graduated from Pickens Academy in 1977. He was a good student but did not study. We often kidded him about the music appreciation class that he thought would be “a breeze” but found that it was not. After high school, he immediately went to work full-time with his grandfather Lafayette Gates and his Father, Bobby Windle, in the construction business, following a family tradition started by his great-grandfather, James P. Gates. Kerry worked in construction in Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Greene, and Hale Counties as well as in Baldwin County and in New Orleans, LA., building homes and churches and also restoring historical homes. He took special pride in his work, and over the years, many people have told the family members that Kerry was one of the best detailed wood craftsmen they had known. He loved the farm and built his home there in 1982. There, he enjoyed working with the animals and pets, the equipment, and the benefits of living on a farm. He loved the outdoors and spent much time hunting, fishing, camping, and finding pleasure in creation. He never wanted to leave “his patch of dirt.” Kerry always loved people and talked with everyone. He especially enjoyed older people and was very attentive to them. He could often be found today playing dominoes with his friends. His reading in younger years was mainly comic books and The National Geographic magazine. More recently, he had focused on sports and could tell you all about the NFL teams, coaches, and players. He was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Springhill. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 15th at 11:00 A.M. with visitation following. The Spring Hill Baptist Church is equipped for wheelchair entrance, and Assistance will be available. Dress is casual. Please join us.
