Photo Search for County Resident Killed in Vietnam

Janna Hoehn is searching for a photo of Wardell Perkins, a Vietnam soldier from Gordo.

Janna Hoehn, a resident of Maui, Hawaii, is helping put together photos from all 58,315 American soldiers killed or missing during the Vietnam War for the “Wall of Faces” online memorial on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund website. To date, 53,000 photos have been collected.

Seven soldiers with a Pickens County home of record were killed in Vietnam. Of the seven, only one photo has yet to be recovered.  Wardell Perkins was born 1947 and died in 1968. His home of record is Gordo, Alabama. If anyone has any information regarding Perkins, please contact Hoehn at

Hoehn made her first trip to Washington D.C. with her husband eight years ago. Growing up during the Vietnam War era, she wanted her first stop to be the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. “Even though I never knew anyone killed in Vietnam, I wanted a rubbing of one of the names,” Hoehn wrote in her email to the Pickens County Herald.
