Evelyn Wilkins Sims, 86, of Gordo, died November 20, 2018 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were held November 23, 2018 at Gordo First Baptist Church and officiated by Rev. Pat Powell and Rev. James Swedenburg. Burial took place at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Woodrow sims; her parents; brother, Earl Wilkins (Judy); and sisters, Louise Wilkins Bradley (Everett) and Alene Wilkins Peeks (DeRoy).
Survivors include daughter Rita Sims Russell and husband, Scott; and sister, Faye Wilkins Cowart.
Mrs. Sims was born September 3, 1932 in Reform to the late Abner Clester Wilkins and Trannie Mae Lowe Wilkins. She was a member of Gordo First Baptist Church, a retired employee of Westinghouse, and a life-long resident of Pickens County.
Pallbearers were Tony Otts, Jeff Swedenburg, Brad Swedenburg, Adam Swedenburg, Frank Elmore, Jimmy Hall, Don Driver, and Mitzi Sims. Honorary pallbearers were David Housel, Raymond and Cindy Housel, Mary Nell Floyd, Steve Cowart, and Dr. William Hill.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the American Caner Society, Mid-South Division, 1100 Ireland Way, Suite 201, Birmingham, AL 35205.
