Reform Council Debates How to Help City Schools

BY GENA HUFF, Editor

At their bi-monthly meeting on April 17, the Reform City Council was approached by Mayor Bennie Harton in his desire to contribute to the city schools.

Pickens County High School (PCHS) has been in the news recently as the county Board of Education looks for solutions to maintain the school in the community. One solution offered is to reconfigure classes to elevate enrollment numbers. In this way, the state would be able to provide more funding for assistant principal, counselor, librarian, and teacher salaries.

“We talked about it several weeks ago,” said Harton. “Several meetings ago. We never did make any suggestions as to what our support might be. I think that we, as a council, need to show our support to the schools, not only PCHS but Reform Elementary as well.”
