Judith (Gardner) Schmidt passed away peacefully in her home on August 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Judy was born in Jackson, Alabama, on March 30, 1944, to Earl Ray Gardner and Evelyn (Kirk) Gardner. The family moved to Aliceville, AL, where Judy attended and graduated from Aliceville High School in 1962. She went on to graduate from Auburn University and became an elementary teacher. She taught in several states and eventually retired to stay home and raise her children when the family moved to Columbus, Ohio.

Jacqueline Davis Thomson was born on September 14, 1927, in Birmingham, AL, to John William Davis and Sophronia Louise Longmire, and grew up in Carrollton, AL. Music was always an important part of her life, and among her passions as a child was learning to play the piano. When she was 16, her family bought her a piano, which she kept and shared with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. After graduating from Carrollton High School, she was off to Auburn University, where she was a founding member of Auburn’s synchronized swimming team.

She is survived by Freddie Smith, her loving husband of 54 years, and her son, Jeramy, and daughter, Amy. She is also survived by her siblings, Gail Shirley, John (Brenda) Hannah, and David (Summer) Hannah. Her brother, Mack Mosley, and sister, Judy Odell, preceded her in death. Jane also has a number of nieces and nephews.
