James Lemuel Latham, Jr., age 77, passed away May 21, 2022. He was born on September 28, 1944 in Reform, Alabama where he lived for 76 years with his wife Elaine before they moved to Chattanooga, TN to be closer to their two sons. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, his children, Greg Latham (Gwen) of Atlanta, Georgia and Chad Latham (Katheron) of Chattanooga, Tennessee. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Taylor Latham (Katherine), Austin Latham, Logan Latham (Yahna), Riley Latham, and Sarah Katheron Latham. He also has 3 great-grandchildren, Maeve Atley Latham, Elliott James Latham, and Fielding James Latham. Mr. Latham is preceded in death by his parents, James Lemuel Latham, Sr. and Bertha Rowe Latham and his sister, Martha Latham Elmore.
James attended Marion Military Institute and then joined his father in the family trucking business in Reform servicing the sawmill and forestry industries. He was Assistant Chief of the Reform Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years, many of those as captain, and was also one of the founders and Captain of the Pickens County Rescue Squad. Mr. Latham was most recently a member of New Salem Baptist Church.
Funeral service were held at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel in Reform, Alabama on Saturday, May 28, at 2:00 PM with Rev. Mike Hall officiating. Burial followed in Graham Memorial Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. The family received friends following the service.
Pallbearers were William Ashmore, Eddy Gault, Charlie Gillespie, Roger Jaynes, Doug Pugh, and David Richardson. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the fire department and rescue squad.
In lieu of flowers, the family recommends donations be made to New Salem Baptist Church, PO. Box 1378, Reform, AL 35481.
