Dear Editor,
The Tuscaloosa Veterans Medical Center has erected four cottages (nursing homes) to our veterans.
I sat in on a meeting with the directors of these facilities along with patient veterans. The patients made a suggestion that maybe some organization could donate some umbrellas for our picnic tables and some bird feeders. They like to watch the birds feed.
I came back to Pickens County and talked to the members of VFW Post 4767 if we could work on this program. An ad was placed in The Shoppers Guide for the past three weeks asking for donations for this project. To date, only two citizens have helped.
It is a shame over 3,000 veterans who live in Pickens County and use the VA facilities do not have any care for those less fortunate.
I sure hope you don’t have to rely on veteran’s help. It may not happen.
