Governor Kay Ivey appointed a new Pickens County sheriff on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, as Gordo Police Chief Todd Hall was sworn in to assume the role of Pickens County Sheriff, a position that was vacated on June 14, 2019 when former-Sheriff David Abston was arrested on charges of wire fraud and filing a false tax return.
“It’s a new experience and I’m very excited about the prospects of the position and the opportunity to serve the people of Pickens County,” Sheriff Todd Hall said.
Hall has served as Chief of Police in Gordo for 32 years, but never thought he would be sheriff. He retired five years ago, but the Town of Gordo appointed him to serve as Police Chief on a part-time basis.
