Michelle Kirk
I have qualified for re-election as Revenue Commissioner. I have been employed in the Revenue Commissioner’s Office for 24 years. I began working as an appraisal and mapping clerk in August, 1996. I was promoted to Appraiser in 2003 and held that position until running for office in 2014. I was sworn in as Revenue Commissioner on October 1, 2015.
I currently hold the titles of certified Alabama Tax Administrator and Real Property Appraiser. I am an active member of the Alabama Tax Administrators Association where I served on the Rules and Regulations committee and currently am serving my second appointment to the Joint Education and Advisory committee. I serve as an instructor for property tax classes with the Government and Economic Development Institute at Auburn University. These classes give participants an overview of the appraisal, assessment and taxation processes per the Code of Alabama and Alabama Appraisal Manual.
Since taking office in 2015, there have been changes in the office; employees have retired and policies and procedures have changed but through it all, the office has continued to run efficiently. I started the current term with a great staff and pray to continue another term with a great staff.
Serving the public is where my heart is, and I have always felt that way. I can’t see myself doing anything else. It is an honor and a privilege to serve as your Revenue Commissioner, and I humbly ask for your support as I seek re-election.
