CARROLLTON- In March 2020, shortly before the COVID-19 epidemic began, the Pickens County Medical Center closed its doors permanently, much to the devastation of those living in Pickens County. Efforts are currently being made to have the hospital reopened. A petition to reopen the facility is underway.
Citizens can find petitions throughout Pickens County in numerous stores, offices, and even schools. Alabama Legislatures require a minimum of five thousand signatures to consider releasing ARPA funds to reopen the medical facility. The mayors of Pickens County have been working hard to spread awareness of the growing petition. Mayor Mickey Walker confirmed that the current signatures reached nearly four thousand and encouraged those who have not yet signed to please do so.
The Mayors have given statements concerning the petition and what help they hope it will encourage the government to provide for the community.
