The Pickens County Board of Education opened its meeting on October 17, 2022, with an invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance. Board Chairman Annie Jackson called the meeting to order. The agenda was approved with a motion from Board Member Gene Dawkins and a second from Board Member Sam Wiggins. Board Member Dr. John Brandon made a motion and Wiggins seconded it to approve the minutes from the September meeting, and they were approved. Payroll was approved with a motion from Board Member Frankie Spencer and a second from Wiggins.
Mrs. Jennifer Shirley gave the financial report, and it was approved with a motion from Dawkins and a second from Dr. Brandon.
Superintendent Jamie Chapman gave a report about the superintendents’ conference he attended last week in Florence, Alabama.
“We heard from one nationally renowned speaker,” said Chapman. “Basically, the face of Public Education is changing, and it is going to keep changing because of the information age that we’re in. It just gave some tips and tidbits on how to prepare for that. I think we’re on board for that with the technology emphasis that we’ve put in. It was a very informative conference.”
