Gordo’s Housing Authority hosted its first ever Family Fun Day June 9 in conjunction with the 31st Annual Gordo Mule Day/Chickenfest.
The day began with organizations, such as the Pickens County Health Department, Pickens County Community Action, Girl Scouts of North Central Alabama, Pickens County Head Start, Pickens County Primary Care, Bevill State Community College, and United Way of West Alabama, among others, giving presentations to local community members in attendance. Snacks and drinks were served to those in attendance.
Once the presentations concluded, the Gordo Fire Department was on hand to let kids see the fire trucks. Gordo Fire Chief Sam Powell then gave a tutorial on what to do in case of a fire, as well as what the firefighters hear when they receive a call.
Gordo Housing Authority Executive Director Bud Blakney said, while this was the first Family Fun Day the organization has hosted, they often do events similar to this throughout the year.
