Gordo made it through a hard fought Game 1 against Wicksburg, having to come back twice to defeat the Panthers. In Game 2, the sledding was no easier for the Green Wave, as they found themselves tied at 4-4 going into the top of the seventh inning. Gordo was able to come through in pressure situations both times to sweep the series against Wicksburg and advance to the Class 3A state semifinals for the third consecutive year.

The Greenwaves would sweep the first two games of the best-of-three series with the Tigers by winning 16-3 and 3-0 and giving Gordo a home series in the second round.

Gordo dropped its area series with American Christian Academy on Tuesday and Thursday of last week.

Gordo picked up wins over South Lamar and Starkville last Saturday to run its record to 15-0 before falling to New Hope 5-3 on Tuesday evening
