Gordo used a big first half en route to a 45-0 homecoming win over Gordo Friday night. After a 1-2 start to the season, the Greenwave have reeled off three straight wins to put them in a second place tie with Lamar County in Class 3A Region 4.
“We’ve got a team that works really hard and they’re fun to coach,” Gordo head coach Ryan Lolley said. “I am really proud of them and last night I thought we were able to put a complete game together on offense, defense, and special teams. It’s a real fun bunch to coach because they’re working hard and getting better every week and that’s what you want to see.”
Troy Garner Jr. put Gordo on the board with 7:11 remaining in the first quarter when he ran for a one-yard touchdown to give the Greenwave a 7-0 lead. Joshua Darling would later run for a three-yard touchdown with 2:13 remaining in the period, as Gordo led 14-0 after one quarter.
The Greenwave took a 21-0 lead early in the second quarter, as Garner Jr. ran for his second score of the day from two yards out. Tanner Bailey found receiver D.J. Barnes for a 29-yard touchdown pass, giving Gordo a 27-0 advantage at halftime.
