Pickens Academy’s Hugh Pate signed his letter of intent to play football for the Birmingham-Southern Panthers last Wednesday. The senior played both offensive and defensive line for coach Wade Goodman and the Pirates, but says he will be playing on the defensive line at the next level.

Pate said that his decision came down to Rhoads College, Millsaps College, Huntingdon College, and Birmingham-Southern Col- lege.

“Millsaps and Rhoads didn’t really contact me as much as Birmingham-Southern and they weren’t really as aggressive (in the recruitment process). Huntingdon didn’t contact me until a er basketball season and I had pretty much made up my mind at that point,” Pate said. “Birmingham-Southern, of course, is closer to home.”
