Green Wave win Game 3 over Bayside to advance to quarterfinals

Gordo saw Game 2 slip away on Friday night, as Bayside Academy knocked in a run in the seventh inning of game two for a 3-2 win Friday night, which sent the game to a deciding Game 3 at noon on Saturday. Gordo would win Game 3, however, moving on to the state quarterfinals.

Game 1 between Gordo and Bayside Academy was a relatively close game until the Green Wave drove in four runs in the seventh to seal a 9-3 win. Bayside got on the board first when Jack Knight hit a fly ball to left field and Del Corte scored to take a 1-0 lead.

Gordo tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second inning when Drew Porter hit a ground ball to score Ben Capps. The Green Wave then took a 2-1 lead in the fourth when Clay Herring doubled on a line drive to center, scoring Capps again. Cabel Mullenix then singled on a line drive to center to score Herring for a 3-1 lead.

The Admirals answered in the bottom of the fourth inning when Zach Kittrell scored on an error by Gordo third baseman Rett Mullenix to make the score 3-2.

The Green Wave took a 5-2 lead in the top of the fifth as Capps doubled on a fly ball to left field to score Rett Mullenix, followed by a single by Herring to score Capps.

Gordo then scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to go ahead 9-2. Cabel Mullenix, Rett Mullenix, Josh Darling, and Nate Mullenix all finished with RBIs in the inning, as the Green Wave would go on to win 9-3.

Bayside Academy, 3 Gordo, 2

In the second game, Bayside Academy jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Admirals would hold a 2-0 lead until the bottom of the fourth inning when singles by Nate Mullenix, Josh Darling, and Cade Junkin loaded the bases with two outs and an error allowed Mullenix and Darling to come home for a 2-2 tie.

With two outs in the top of the seventh, Jack Knight hit a double off of Lucas Wilburn that sent Del Corte home for the game-deciding run and a 3-2 win, as the Green Wave were unable to manufacture any runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
