MONTGOMERY - William Parker scored his 17th point of his 18th birthday with five seconds left and it was the icing on the cake, as Pickens Academy had just completed a comeback for the ages against 1-seed Jackson Academy to win 39-34. The Pirates fell down 18-2 midway through the second quarter on Thursday evening and from there chipped away at the score and were all the way back in the game by midway through the third quarter.
“Obviously, you take the keep playing approach,” Pickens Academy Coach Jeremy Pate said. “The biggest thing with them is we just needed to settle down. We still had butterflies in our stomach at halftime.
Drake Lowery put Pickens Academy on the board first with two free throws, but for the Pirates, those would be the last two points they would score for a long, long time.
