Morris Earl “Billy” Carr, age 94, of Carrollton, AL passed away September 8, 2023 at Aliceville
Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services were 2:00 pm Monday, September 11, 2023 at Carrollton Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Burkhalter and Rev. Damon Rose officiating. Burial was held in Bethesda Cemetery in the Benevola community with Skelton Funeral Home directing. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joy Graham Carr; his second wife, Nona Faye Phillips
Carr; his parents, Early Ezekeal Carr and Emma Driver Goodman; daughter, Renee Tyra; sisters, Sarah Freeman and Brenda Rainwater and brother, Sonny Carr.
Survivors include his son, Greg Carr (Jennifer); daughter, Lisa Barker (David); son-in-law, Jeff Tyra; brothers, Gerald Goodman and LaVaughn Goodman (Sherry); sisters, Faye Harkins (Charles), Judy Jarvis and Debra Wheat (Roger); seven grandchildren, Rachael Pope (Josh), Jason McGee, Meagen Tyra Carter (Ry), Leanna Barker (fiancé, Nick Garner), Zane Tyra (Hannah), Caleb Carr (Baylee) and Daniel Carr; five great-grandchildren, Lincoln Pope, Anderson Carter, Grayson Carter, Lawson Carter and John Ashley McGee and numerous nieces and nephews.
Billy was born December 14, 1928 in the Speeds Mill community of Alabama. He was a member of Carrollton Baptist Church, a retired truck driver for Dowdle Gas Company and a veteran of the United States Army.
Pallbearers were Lawrence Graham, Billy Broadhead, Truman Burkhalter, Bert Craft, Lee Craft and Mickey Walker.
Honorary Pallbearers were residents, staff and management of Aliceville Manor Nursing Home,
friends of the Benevola community, Amedisys Hospice of Tuscaloosa, nurse, Nikki Hammonds, Dr. Jay Parker and Chaplain Damon Rose.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Bethesda Cemetery Fund, c/o Tim Powell, 344 Maughan Road, Gordo, AL 35466 or to Carrollton Baptist Church, P.O. Box 457, Carrollton, AL 35447
