Bessie Evelyn McDaniel

Bessie Evelyn McDaniel, age 97, of Carrollton, AL passed away September 12, 2023 at Aliceville
Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services were 2:00 pm Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Carrollton Baptist Church with Rev. Shawn McDaniel and Rev. Robert Heard officiating. Burial followed in Carrollton City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. McDaniel; her parents; stepmother, Lottie Acker; sisters, Fronia Goodman, Sarah Turnipseed Hemphill, Laurice Rotenberry, Doris Sparks and Beatrice Ward; brother, R. L. Acker, Jr.; son-in-law, Chester Elmore and granddaughter, Leigh Ann McDaniel.
Survivors include her daughters, Carolyn Faye Elmore and Sheila Diane Holland and husband,
Jimmy; son William Harold “Buddy” McDaniel and wife, Melinda; brother, David Dewayne Acker and wife, Virginia; sister, Jean Crawford; four grandchildren, Ricky Elmore (Tammy), Keith Elmore (Kim), Tony McDaniel and Tre Holland; eight great-grandchildren, Ashley Wilson (Ross), Anna Elmore (Hunter Wells), Jacob Elmore (Katie), Elizabeth McDaniel, Juliana McDaniel, Olivia McDaniel, Fort Holland and Mary Maddox Holland and two great-great-grandchildren, Reese Wilson and Harper Wilson.
Evelyn was born March 20, 1926 in Pickens County, Alabama to the late Robert Lee Acker, Sr. and Shafronie Hicks Acker. She was the oldest member of Carrollton Baptist Church at her death and a retired garment seamstress for Country Miss.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Elmore, Keith Elmore, Tony McDaniel, Tre Holland, Jacob Elmore and
Bobby Shields.
Honorary Pallbearers will be staff and residents of Aliceville Manor Nursing Home, Amedisys Hospice, nurse, Nikki Hammonds and Dr. Jay Parker.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Carrollton Baptist Church Mission Project, P.O. Box 457, Carrollton, AL 35447 or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital Memorial Giving, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
