Saturday, September 14, 2024, a Pickens County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop on Highway 86 between Carrollton and Gordo. After making contact with the driver, the deputy saw heavy smoke rising from his vehicle. This deputy is also the K9 handler, and without a second thought he immediately went to the vehicle to save his K9 partner, Zuna. As he approached the vehicle, he saw smoke and fire coming from it. The deputy wasn’t worried about anything but saving his partner. He got Zuna out in time. Both the deputy and K9 are doing well. Traffic was blocked for a while on Highway 86 while the fire was being put out.
