Pickens County Beats South Lamar 28-12

The Pickens County Tornadoes (3-5) defeated the South Lamar Mus- tangs (1-6) 28-12.

Behind a strong rush- ing attack the Tornadoes improved to 3-5 overall and 3-2 in region play.

The strong rushing per- formance was led by Willie Windham with 118 yards on 14 carries. Calvin Hill added an- other 112 yards on13 carries.

The Mustangs scored first in the opening quar- ter with a 32-yard touch- down run. The PAT was no good.

The Tornadoes got on the scoreboard in the sec- ond quarter with Wind- ham scoring on a 28-yard touchdown run. Pickens County scored again with a 7-yard touchdown run by Michael Billups. The 2- point conversion was good. The Tornadoes scored again just before the quarter ended with a 30-yard touchdown run by Henry Calvin. The PAT was no good. The first half ended with the Tornadoes up 22-6.

The Mustangs provide the only scoring in the third quarter on a 1-yard run. The PAT was no good.

Pickens County fin- ished the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 61- yard touchdown pass from Windham to Chris- tian Hall. The 2-point conversion was good.

The Tornadoes defense was led by Jaquarius Cohen with 7 total tack- les. Micheal Billups added another 5 tackles, Billups also had 1 inter- ception and one fumble recovery.

Pickens County will travel to Berry next week for another region game. The game is set for Octo- ber 18, 2024, at 7:00 p.m.
