As summer gets into full swing and kids are looking for new activities to cut down on the boredom, some young budding entrepreneurs may decide a lemonade stand is worth a try.
Everybody likes to sell lemonade, it’s cheap, the profit margin is good, it’s easy to make and refreshing, it goes well if you want to have a cookie or two on the side, and nothing says “Awww, how cute,” to grownups like a kid or two running a lemonade stand.
But as the world changes, some kids, in some places, are getting shut down or fined because they don’t have a permit for their stand. Do people not have anything better to do than shut down kid’s lemonade stands? Sure they do. But in the permanently offended world of today, nothing is sacred anymore.
Country Time Lemonade is taking a stand. (So to speak.) Since kids are getting their lemonade stands shut down, or the cost of a permit outweighs the profit and the fun, Country Time says, “We’re here for you.”
The makers of the well-known brand of lemonade have started a program to help pay kids’ fines around the nation, aptly named Legal-Ade. Any child under the age of 14 that has incurred a fine during 2017 or 2018 for their lemonade stand or has paid for a permit in 2018 to sell lemonade, can be reimbursed by the Country Time (Kraft Heinz) company for any amount up to $300. All it takes is the parent or guardian of the child logging on to www.countrytimelegalade.com and uploading a copy of the fine or permit. The program will end at 11:59 ET August 31, 2018, or when $60,000 worth of offers have been awarded, whichever comes first.
So, break out the ice cubes, the sliced lemons, the sugar, the plastic cups, and the quarters. It’s time to set up that stand and spread the sunshine. Cheers!
