A large amount of marijuana and methamphetamine was uncovered and confiscated during a routine traffic stop Sept. 2 in Gordo.

A traffic stop in Gordo, on September 2, at about 8:30 p.m., resulted in the confiscation of a large amount of marijuana, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and two hand guns.

Deyon Marquis Porter, 25, of Columbus, Miss., was arrested by Gordo City Police and the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office after being stopped for a traffic violation on Highway 82. The officer noticed suspicious activity by the driver and removed him from the vehicle. A preliminary search revealed a small amount of marijuana. The K-9 unit was called in, the search unearthing a large amount of drugs and paraphernalia hidden throughout the car, including the trunk.

Porter is currently being held in the Pickens County jail for possession of marijuana 1st, possession of a controlled substance, use/possession of drug paraphernalia, pistol without permit, illegal possession of alcohol, and drug tax stamp required.
