The Pickens Academy volleyball team fell to Tuscaloosa Academy three sets to zero Sept. 4, dropping the Lady Pirates’ season record to 1-2. Pickens Academy fell behind early in the first two sets before trying to mount a comeback, while the Lady Pirates took a 15-10 lead before surrendering the lead for a 25-18 loss.
In the first set, the score was tied at 3-3 when TA’s Emma Fulgham hit the ball into the net, giving Pickens Academy a 4-3 advantage. Makayla Gibson missed a kill by Tuscaloosa Academy to put the Lady Knights up 6-5 before taking a 14-10 advantage.
Tuscaloosa Academy would stretch the lead to 17-11 when Jalynn Hall hit a serve out of bounds. However, PA battled back to cut the lead to 22-20, but the ball would fall short of going over the net on a Lady Pirates serve on match point, giving TA the 25-21 win.
