Pickens Academy dropped its first volleyball match on Thursday, Aug. 23 to Bessemer Academy before picking up a win against Russell Christian on Tuesday, August 28th. The Lady Pirates will host Tuscaloosa Academy on Tuesday, September 4th, in what PA head coach Erica Wicktora said would be an competitive match.”.
“It’s a pretty good rivalry,” Wicktora said of playing Tuscaloosa Academy. “The games with TA are always pretty intense because they’re one of our better opponents.”

The Pickens Academy volleyball team fell to Tuscaloosa Academy three sets to zero Sept. 4, dropping the Lady Pirates’ season record to 1-2. Pickens Academy fell behind early in the first two sets before trying to mount a comeback, while the Lady Pirates took a 15-10 lead before surrendering the lead for a 25-18 loss.
