Gordo found itself in an unfamiliar position last week after falling to region foe Winfield, taking their record to 1-2. The Greenwave righted the ship on Friday, however, going to Oakman and coming away with a crucial region win behind Troy Garner Jr.’s 214 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Jy’Tavian Billups put Gordo on the board first with a 42-yard touchdown run with 7:53 remaining in the first quarter. Oakman’s Christian Hubbard then answered with a one-yard touchdown run with 1:55 remaining in the period. The Wildcat extra-point was no good, leaving the Greenwave with a 7-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Troy Garner Jr. would score his first touchdown of the night on a one-yard touchdown run with 8:20 left in the second quarter for a 13-6 lead. Joshua Darling would then add a one-yard touchdown run of his own just before halftime, giving Gordo a 20-6 advantage at the intermission. Darling’s touchdown capped a 13-play, 71-yard drive.
