Pickens Academy traveled to LaFayette, Alabama on Friday night to face Chambers Academy, a team that many tab to be the best in AISA Class A. The Pirates came away with a 49-0 loss and long drive that resulted in the team getting back to Carrollton after 2 a.m. Saturday morning.
“They executed everything they did really well,” Pickens Academy head coach Wade Goodman said of Chambers. “I really was not that impressed with them on film, but when you’re not giving yourself a chance, playing no better than we played, you don’t give yourself a good look.”
Chambers Academy got on the board first when Colton Hand scored a touchdown with 8:33 remaining in the first quarter. The Rebels soon after had a punt returned for a score before it was negated due to a personal foul. C.J. Lyons made amends for the penalty quickly, however, as he took a handoff 46 yards to give Chambers a 14-0 lead after the first quarter.
