PA Bows Out of Playoffs After Loss to Crenshaw

BY BRIAN HAMILTON, Sports Correspondent

Pickens Academy’s season ends at 2-9 as the Pirates traveled to Luverne Friday night to take on Crenshaw Christian and lost 70-6. The Cougars scored early and often and the only Pickens Academy score came on a long kickoff return by Jon Wesley Rye.

“It’s really our job to stop them,” Pickens Academy head coach Wade Goodman said. “They were throwing in the second half up 49-6, but we didn’t play very well. When you go to the playoffs, teams turn the intensity up a little bit and that’s what happens when you don’t match their intensity.”

Rye ran back a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown to save the Pirates from a shutout.
