H.E.L.P., Incorporated is  an origin to destination demand response and contract transportation agency. The organization’s goal is to provide safe, reliable, affordable transportation for the citizens of Pickens County. Director Patricia McCafferty announced in the YouthBuild Advisory Committee meeting last Thursday that the service would soon begin transporting Pickens County residents to Tuscaloosa County for a round-trip fee of just $10.

“That’s the rate we came up with based on other agencies,” McCafferty said. “We’ve got a driver out with illness right now, but when they get back, we will begin transportation to Tuscaloosa.”

The cost for local transportation in Pickens County is $1 for those over 60 years old, while $2 for ages 59 and younger. McCafferty stated that people schedule their ride at least 24 hours in advance by calling 205-367-2200.

“Sometimes it gets tough for families with multiple people riding, but that is the rate we are required to charge,” McCafferty said.
