Aliceville Public Library Receives $20,000.00 Grant from the American Library Association

Aliceville Public Library

Aliceville Public Library was one of a few selected rural public libraries across the United States to receive the ALA COVID Library Relief Fund.  The ALA COVID Library Relief grant assists public, school, academic, and tribal libraries across the United States and US Territories that have experienced substantial hardship due to the coronavirus pandemic, which impacted their ability to serve their community, especially in traditionally underserved populations.
Aliceville Public Library was chosen over hundreds of applicants from all fifty states because of the strong community service record and the expressed commitment to continue providing educational, civic, social, and cultural programs and resources to rural Alabama, even during the COVID pandemic period.  The Aliceville Public Library has served as the “civic center” for Aliceville for a number of years and will continue to be utilized in that capacity in the future.
The Aliceville Public Library and the Aliceville Senior Activity Center are housed in the old Aliceville Elementary and High School, which was built in 1913.  It is one of the only remaining structures in Pickens County that is on the Alabama Historical Commission and the National Register of Historic Places.
The 1913 building was in much need for repairs and maintenance.  The grant funds were used to repair windows, replace damaged wood on the exterior and interior and to get a fresh coat of exterior paint.
We are honored to have been chosen as one of the grant recipients from The American Library Association.  We are very proud of our facility and the service we provide to Aliceville and Pickens County, Alabama. We are thankful we were able to use the grant funds to repair and refurbish our beautiful library building.  Please come by and see our facility the next time you are on 3rd Avenue NE in Aliceville, Alabama.  We are very proud of the improvements to the “old school”.
