Pickens Academy held their annual Veteran’s Day program on November 10th. The program was led by Millie Jaynes, Student Government Association President. A devotion and prayer was given by Alyssa Watt. The pledge was led by Aidan Johnson and the K4 class. The Pirate Band played the Star Spangled Banner. The guest speaker was Chief Master Sergeant Gary Thomas of Reform. Sergeant Thomas spoke of his 29 years of service in the Air Force where he spent most of his career as an instructor in Undergraduate Pilot Training, management of Flight Simulator Programs, and teaching and coaching at the United States Air Force Academy. Thomas talked with the students about the importance of Veteran’s Day, the difference in this holiday compared to Memorial Day, and his personal military experiences. Next, each branch of military was honored by playing the United States Armed Forces Medley. The program concluded with Taps being played by SGA President, Millie Jaynes.
