Carrollton Christmas Tree Lighting

CARROLLTON- The Town of Carrollton recently put up its 35 foot Christmas tree that was donated by Roger Wallace of Fayette, Alabama. Mayor Mickey Walker saw the tree several months ago on his way to a wedding. The tree had a police escort into town on Tuesday, November 21, 2022. With lots of help from the city workers, the tree was put up on Courthouse Square and will remain there until after the new year.
“We had a boom truck,” said Mayor Walker. “Tim Sullivan from Sullivan Contractors always furnishes the boom truck and caterpillar to put it up, and we are grateful for that. I’d like to thank Bradley Lee with the Pickens County Commission. He’s been tremendous in helping us get the tree up. I would like to thank all the city workers for their time and effort in it. They stayed after hours and didn’t worry about overtime because they just wanted to see it up. We really appreciate the guy giving it to us. If there is anybody that has a large tree in their yard please contact us, and we might use it next year.”
The tree lighting ceremony took place on Sunday, November 27th at 6:00 p.m. with Mayor Walker’s granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth O’Neal, age 3, lighting the 45,000 lights on the tree this year. There was a good crowd on the Courthouse Square that night, and people are looking forward to celebrating Christmas in Carrollton again this year.
