Sheriff Jordan Powell has taken over the Pickens County Sheriff’s Department for the next four years. Sheriff Powell grew up in Gordo and graduated from Gordo High School in 2003. He attended Shelton State Community College and then worked several different jobs. He attended APOSTC Law Enforcement in Tuscaloosa in 2009 and began working for the Northport Police Department as a police officer from 2009-2013. He was then assigned to the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force for the last five years of his tenure there until 2018 and worked out of the Tuscaloosa Police Department. His career changed when he was hired at the 24th Judicial Circuit as an investigator for Pickens, Lamar, and Fayette counties, where he worked major crimes that included homocides, large thefts, and narcotics.
