ALICEVILLE- The Aliceville City Council meeting occurred on February 22, 2023. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Terrence Windham. Councilmembers Rebecca Gilliam and Thomas Wilkins were absent.
The council approved the minutes of the last meeting.
The first item on the agenda was unfinished business, where the council discussed the park concession stand bids. The highest bid came from Beverly Walker at $750, and the council agreed to accept this bid pending agreement to parameters.
The council then agreed to table the millage rate for further discussion.
Next on the agenda was new business. The council motioned for Mayor Windham to attend the Alabama League of Municipalities Conference as the 2023 voting delegate. Councilmember Talya Ball will be the 1st alternate, followed by Councilmember Robert Wilder, followed by Councilmember Chris Lewis.
Mayor Windham then presented the Resolution recognizing the work and life of Mr. Willie Dixon to Mrs. Cheryl Dixon.
“Whereas the city of Aliceville as a greater community has lost a strong and valued and greatly respected leader on February 9, 2023, with the death of retired Aliceville Volunteer Fire Chief Willie James Dixon.
Whereas he was a 1970 Aliceville High School graduate and joined the United States Air Force.
Whereas Mr. Willie Dixon was a tireless and devoted advocate of the Aliceville Volunteer Fire Department and served as the Fire Chief for over ten years.
Whereas Mr. Willie Dixon’s compassion with, understanding, and love for family and community, He was always willing to give his time and service freely when needed and provided joy, peace, and happiness to others.
Whereas Mr. Willie Dixon truly was an honorable man who touched the lives of many. His selfless spirit and genuine love of others will be missed, but his legacy will live forever.
