The Carrollton Town Council held its monthly meeting September 5, 2024. After the invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance, the meeting was called to order. The minutes were approved with a motion from Councilman Freddie Lowe and a second from Councilman Phillip Trull. The council approved to pay the city’s bills with a motion from Councilman Trull and a second from Councilwoman Terisa Robbins.
Mayor Mickey Walker asked the council to vote to abandon part of the road close to the Ken Shirley and Craig Clanahan property. It was approved to abandon this road with a motion from Councilman Lowe and a second from Councilman McDaniel. Also, a portion of the road on Cox Street needs to be vacated. A motion was made by Councilman McDaniel, and the second was made by Councilwoman Robbins. It was approved.
Mayor Walker said he was pleased with the new entry sign coming into Carrollton from Reform. There were several donations that helped with the project. Mayor Walker wanted to thank Alabama Power for the $2,500.00 grant the city received from them.
“I would like to thank Alabama Power for that grant to help us,” said Mayor Walker. “Without that, we wouldn’t have been able to do it.”
Mayor Walker said there will be lighting on the flags at the new sign. He also said they were going to work to pave the driveway at the American Legion. A motion was made by Councilman Lowe, and the second was made by Councilman Sherman Mayhew to allow the mayor to get prices on the paving. It was unanimously approved.
Mayor Walker has been looking at new sewer jetters. He has found several prices, and it will cost close to $40,000.00 for a new jetter. A motion was made by Councilman McDaniel, and a second was made by Councilman Mayhew to buy the jetter unless the mayor can find one cheaper. Mayor Walker said he would continue to look for a better price.
The Council voted to send City Clerk Jessica Perrigin to the Municipal Clerks Winter Conference on how to hold elections. This will be held November 20th-22nd, 2024. A motion was made by Councilwoman Robbins, and the second was given by Councilman Lowe to allow the clerk to attend the conference.
Mayor Walker announced that court will be held in the Old Courthouse on September 24th-27th, 2024. Walker said they are seeking a grant to make the Old Courthouse ADA compliance for future court where everyone will be able to use the facility.
A motion was made by Councilman Lowe, and the second was given by Councilman Mayhew to continue the USDA beaver contract for $1,500.00. It was approved.
The city’s 2025 budget was approved with a motion from Councilman Lowe and a second from Councilman Trull.
Councilman McDaniel made a motion to adjourn with Councilwoman Robbins giving the second. The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting of the Carrollton Council will be October 3, 2024.
