On January 2, 2026, Pickens County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to Water Mill Road, where they found an adult male suffering from fatal gunshot wounds.

Through coordinated efforts, a description of the suspect’s vehicle was developed and shared with surrounding law enforcement agencies.

Close to 15 minutes later, a deputy with the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office spotted the vehicle speeding. The vehicle wrecked, and the suspect was taken into custody.

The suspect was identified as Russell Douglas Beede, of Fayette, Alabama. He has been charged with murder and booked in the Pickens County Jail, where he remains at this time. The investigation is ongoing.

The swift arrest was made because of the strong interagency cooperation and communication between law enforcement agencies in the area.
