Commission Approves Sales Tax Holiday for 2025

The Pickens County Board of Commsioners Meeting was held on Thursday August 29,2024.
Commissioner Jody McGee motioned to approve the consent agenda. Commissioner Nancy Ray seconded the motion. The motion was approved.
The meeting then moved to new business where the first item was to approve the $4,914.00 payment to Southern Heating and Cooling for inspection and service on chiller system completed on August 9, 2024. Commissioner Ray made a motion to approve. Commissioner Patti-Presley Fuller seconded the motion, and it was approved.

 

Quarter-Million Dollar Motor Graders Cause Contention

Some dispute was had over the upgrading and purchasing of new motor graders for the county last week at the August 14 bi-monthly Pickens County Commissioners meeting. A seemingly innocuous item on the agenda reared its head as items were added, pursued, and challenged.

Usually, items are brought off the agenda, motioned, seconded, approved, and the meeting moves at a steady pace.

Commissioners Award PALS Poster Winners

The winning poster for the 4-6 grade category was created by Carly More of Pickens Academy. Miss More and her teacher, Mrs. Sara Cracker, were both on a field trip in Washington D.C. at the time of the award presentations.

At the Pickens County Commissioner’s Meeting on April 24, County Administrator Cheryl Bowles announced the winners of the 2018 People Against a Littered State (PALS) Poster Contest.
